Classic Seniors

The Seniors Program serves as our advanced phase for players ages 15U-19U focused on continued development of technical skills while implementing and refining tactical ideas and concepts and affirming the responsibilities and roles of different positions. The major emphasis in the Seniors program will be teaching players how to compete effectively to be successfully on the field. Utilization of small-sided activities will be very important as we want players involved and on the ball throughout training as much as possible and to create a highly competitive environment. In playing at the Seniors level, most players have now likely developed into a set position or position(s) where they are most effective individually and as a member of the team. WYSA Staff will coordinate training sessions wherein individual groups or "lines" (i.e. backline, midfield line, etc.) are trained to develop a cohesive team unit in match play. Players in the Seniors age groups will play in an 11v11 full-field match format and the emphasis on learning and implementing the tactics of playing will increase. It is WYSA's expectation that all Seniors players will also represent their respective high school teams. Seniors girls teams will play a fall club season and participate in high school soccer in the spring. Seniors boys teams will play a fall high school season and participate in club soccer during the spring.

For players that have an interest in continuing their soccer careers beyond the club and high school levels, we have an experienced staff that is able to assist with recruiting efforts and college engagement. We also have developed partnerships with other resources that are available to WYSA members in their efforts to participate in collegiate soccer.

Understand the program.

The Seniors program will involve players being exposed to a significantly high level of soccer through the course of their seasons. Matches will be highly competitive, skillful, and physical, and, thus, our staff will do our best to replicate those conditions in training. Players should expect to be challenged throughout both training and matches and parents will be crucial in understanding the competitiveness of the program.

A crucial piece of this process will be for coaches and parents to allow learning to take place. While these are advanced players, they are still learning new ideas and being forced to respond to new situations on the field in matches and training. Allowing players to be in uncomfortable situations will force growth and it is our duty to allow players to experience such growth.

Understand the commitment.

Players participating in the Seniors program should be aware of the commitment expected from them by the club and their individual teams. Attendance at training is not optional. Players are expected to take part in all training sessions to allow for individual and team development. While we understand players are involved in a variety of activities, we expect that by joining a WYSA team they are committed to being a part of all activities of the team.
